Student Support
Students will be fully matriculated students of Edinburgh Napier University in Edinburgh, Scotland. For the duration of their study they will be supported in their studies in the ways outlined below:
- The Module Leaders (teaching staff) will be in regular contact with the students per e-mail and internet chat-room throughout the module study period. The module leader will be the first line of contact for academic matters.
- The students will be provided with all study module material per CD-ROM and access to the Intranet of the programme.
- A very comprehensive Student Handbook, included on the CD-ROM, will explain to students how the Programme will run and what they can expect and will provide clear contact details for academic and administrative support.
- Students will be introduced to the Programme, to NUBS and DIAS during an online Introduction Session.
- Students will have full use of the Edinburgh Napier University on-line facilities (Electronic Library), including use of relevant databases.
- Students will be supported in their studies by specially designed, comprehensive distance learning materials.
- Students will have a Napier e-mail account.
- Students will have access to additional on line materials during the run of the Programme. This shall include copies of handouts, extra material as well as past examination papers.
- Students will each be assigned a personal development tutor and will be able to make contact with this tutor as required during their studies. This tutor will also make contact at least twice per trimester to monitor progress and feedback from the student. The tutor will be responsible for the pastoral care of the student.
- Students will be provided with the contact details of the Programme Leaders.
- A special ‘virtual discussion forum’ (chat room) for openly exchanging information and experiences between the students and the academic staff is available. Students will be encouraged to provide feedback on-line at any time and additionally more feedback will be specifically requested at a key point in each trimester so that this can be monitored and responded to, where appropriate, on a shared site on line.
- Counselling and general pastoral support will be available through the personal tutor or Programme Administrator. Student feedback will also be sought at the end of each trimester using online questionnaires on module content and delivery, module support from module leaders, and feedback the overall programme: management and administration. Such feedback will help to inform and improve the delivery and support for future students on the programme.
